I have visited Thailand for the first time last year, and out of all the islands we could have chosen, like Phuket or the most famous ones, we chose one that was maybe a bit off the grid, Koh Samui. Here is what to do in Koh Samui in 2019 if you’re planning to go there.
Playing football golf in a coconut plantation
Discover what football golf is and have fun with your friends while enjoying the views around you of coconut trees. A fun way to spend a couple of hours on the island by playing a new sport and going through challenges in the beautiful gardens. The whole game takes about one hour to complete, but you’re welcome to stay for more.
Try Fresh Black Tiger Prawns
Koh Samui is the best place to try the freshest seafood, but more importantly, black tiger prawns. One of the best restaurants to try them is Galanga Restaurant, in Chaweng. Galanga restaurant is also found on other islands and even in Indonesia!
Drink Rhum Like A Thai
Drink rhum like a local in Thailand’s only rhum distillery, all while taking in some of most the stunning sunset views of the island. Try the local’s favorite rhum, Sangsom, with an ABV of 40% or go a bit tamer, by mixing your tasters with sodas. You won’t regret it or if you do, it will be worth it! This is definitely one of things to do in Koh Samui in 2019 if you’re planning your trip here!
Shop for bargains at the Fishermens village
Enjoy a diverse shopping spree in one of the local markets where you can get to feel and taste local colors and flavors. You can buy souvenirs of all sorts, handcraft items, jewellery, and Thai clothing with prices as low as 50 cents or 1 USD. Have a break from walking around the stalls and get some spicy street food to give you more shopping energy. The market opens in the afternoon and stays open till late just enough for you to bargain and buy local items. Also, you can just shop for avocados or coconuts like I was (trying) to do here!
Have An Amazing View At Sunset Over Chaweng Bay
If you’re thinking of what to do in Koh Samui in 2019, well, there is one place you really shouldn’t miss. The Jungle Club is one of my favorite places in Koh Samui, because you get an unparalled view of Chaweng Bay and you are literally sitting in a jungle! They have good food and drinks, and you choose to sip a cocktail while enjoying the sounds of nature!
Learn to cook Thai from scratch
If you want to know the secrets behind Thai food or just try out combining different flavors, try a cooking class with some of the island’s best cooks. It is recommended that you book for more than 3 hours in order to have enough time to complete at least one dish. This experience will for sure awaken your taste buds!
Paddleboard among the stars at nightime
Get to enjoy a different view of Koh Samui by paddleboarding your way into the night. The waters are calm and warm, and the experience is one of a kind. The average time of a nightboard tour is of one hour, and costs around 45 USD. Happy paddling under the stars!
Sail on a traditional Thai boat
Sail away to Koh Tan for a couple of hours or just take a tour around Koh Samui on a traditional Longtail boat. They are usually used as ferries or fishing boats but you can get to experience the local boats people use here for sailing if you just ask to hire one for the day. Not many tourists choose to go on these boats, but the views you’ll get will be unlike the ones from the standard tours.
Hope you enjoyed this list of things to do in Koh Samui in 2019 and check our Travel recommendations for other tips !
